This is the end... and the beginning.

This is the end... and the beginning.

This is the end... and the beginning. I’ve given notice at my job. I’ve spent almost a full decade running the design department at GMPC and it’s sister companies. There have been many highlights and I’ve learned so much but now it’s time to move on. Actually I’m in the phasing out phase— making sure I should leave and being open to what’s next in store for me. Letting the universe have it’s way with me is incredibly scary and new for me. I’ve given myself Thursdays to do something just for me and this week I met with local Graphic Designer turned Professional Crafter/Blogger, Cathe Holden of Just Something I Made. I’ve fairly well stalked her career and progress in the crafting/vintage ephemera world and love her style. My plan was to ask how she transformed herself from a graphic designer into this phenom blogging queen and at the last minute I packed my portfolio. I was immediately comfortable with Cathe (we’ve got some stuff in common) and she brought me the sweetest little tiffin lunchbox. As we talked about work and her plans for JSIM, my brain started screaming inside: “OMG! She’s a complete genius!” This woman has got vision to spare. Then after complimenting many of the iconic illustrations from my past unused artwork she said: “You know, you should really start making these into fabric designs.” Bing—Click—Ring! KA-POW! “Oh yeah?” “Yeah!” THIS MADE SENSE. It sounded fun! And used my illustration! I left the meeting on a pink patterned cloud— happy to have some direction. Why? Because Cathe said so. Will it work? Who knows, but I’ve loved making prints at work, and now they will be of the illustrated variety! Meeting with Cathe was an infusion of life. I’m so crazy grateful for her honest generosity and brilliance. To be continued...
